Jeca’s session was meant to be. Jeca has an edgier vibe which I LOVE. She wanted to go into Philadelphia for her senior portraits to include wall art and fun buildings into her senior session. She loves the city. But on the day of her session we were experiencing a heat wave and it was suspected to be 97 degrees and 100% humidity and feel like 105. Anyone who lives on the east coast knows what humidity feels like. Some days it’s like walking through water here in NJ. The benefit of living on the coast is that you can drive to the Ocean when it gets this hot. I recently went on a discovery walk with my husband in Asbury Park, NJ and found some amazing wall art! And, the “town” of Asbury is very much like a city! The temp in Asbury that day was a breezy 85 degrees. So we packed the mini van and off we went.
We had so much fun wandering and finding cool locations to shoot at. I have always wondered what the inside of the old carousel house looked like. It is now a skate park. As we were working around the outside of the building, a skater asked us if we wanted to come inside. Well, YESSSSSSS! And so we did.
After we tired of the wall art, we went to the city like town of Asbury and played with fairy lights. I spotted this restaurant Pascal and Sabine that had nice lights that I could use a bokeh in the back round. We also saw the prettiest silver scooter and just as we said, “I wish you could sit on that bike,” the owner of the bike came out of the restaurant and said….”hey, do you want to sit on my scooter?” Well, YESSSSSS!
We decided to end the night after that because anything else would not seemed as epic as that! This image of Jeca on the bike was published on
Senior Inspire over the summer. They thought it was epic too. 🙂
Blaise took a few minutes out of her senior session in Ocean City, NJ to grab a few dance pics. We were dealing with full sun and high winds but we managed to create a few beautiful images! Blaise is a very strong dancer from The Dance Connection in Atco NJ. Dancing on the beach is not easy because you don’t have a hard surface to balance on or push off of. You would never know it the way Blaise nailed these poses!
Blaise, a Hammonton High School Senior is a member of my #susangraceseen team. I love working with her, only wish she had more time in her life for me. She is super busy with her budding dance career. I loved creating a few dance portraits for her and her mom in her costume from her solo routine at The Dance Connection, Atco NJ.
We started out at the 14th street pier in Ocean City. We kindly asked someone if they could remove their hammock from the pier so Blaise had some room in the semi-hard sand to work. It is not easy dancing on the beach. The soft sand makes it difficult to use the muscles in your feet to balance and jump. We were also dealing with very strong winds that day and full sun. Blaise however rocked it against all odds.
I spotted this amazing rose garden along the sidewalk and decided to ask the owner of the house if he minded if we borrowed it. Then we went to Corson’s Inlet at the other end of the island for some shots in nature and by the water at sunset.
Blaise is a wonderful person who’s goal of success is happiness. But all that I will save for another blog soon so stay tuned!
This! If you want to have a magical portrait session surrounded by flowers here on the east coast, you must pick April!!!! Imagine laying on the florist floor and all around you are bluebells. The dogwoods, magnolias, and cherry trees are all in bloom. A spring time wonderland as far as the eye can see. That is what happened when I took Grace and her mom to visit this incredible location. And if all this isn’t enough, she even got to kiss a frog, lay in a giant nest, sit in a fairy ring of mushrooms and play in Snow White’s house!
Grace is a beautiful Hammonton High School sophomore who can sing like an angel and also a very talented actress. She seemed to know what to do without much direction from me. Grace seems to live in the moment and I think spinning in the field of tulips was her favorite memory from this sweet 16 session. I am so happy that her mom decided to give this to Grace as a gift. This was not only a gift to Grace, but also to me. I loved this magical session so much.
